This Panasonic TC-P55VT30 55-inch 3D Plasma HDTV review reveals that it has evolved a great deal from its predecessor in the VT25 series. It is only half the thickness at 1.5 inches features an all glass front surface in place of the gloss black bezel that made the VT25 look ancient compared to its competitors.

Panasonic TC-P55VT30 : New Features

In addition to the upgraded appearance, this television has many new features. It has a 3D display that includes the ability to upgrade 2D video using an upconversion software. It comes with one pair of shutter type glasses. Additional pairs can be purchased separately, though these are expensive.

Panasonic TC-P55VT30 : THX & DLNA Certified, Wi Fi Ready

The video display is THX certified in both 2D and 3D modes. The set is also DLNA certified and Wi Fi ready with an adapter included in the box. It also features a range of built in apps such as Netflix, Hulu Plus, Pandora, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Skype, CinemaNow, Accuweather, and Viera Connect. In addition, an iOS remote app allows one to control the television with his/her iPhone.

Panasonic TC-P55VT30 : Connections Ports

Connections include 4 HDMI inputs, RF antenna, and composite video. The set also has cable, RGB, PC, 3 USB ports, an SD card slot, LAN, RS-232C, and optical digital audio output. This allows for a wide range of inputs and networking options.

Panasonic TC-P55VT30 : Custom Setup Mode

The set offers a custom setup mode that features many options for the more advanced user. These include a 10 point grayscale adjustment, gamma adjustment, and a color management system. However, these settings are not intended for the casual user. Most will be much more satisfied with the automatic THX settings.

Users should pay close attention to selecting full screen and size 2 in the Aspect adjustments menu to ensure high def video, such as that from Blu Ray discs, will be shown without any picture overscan. One interesting setting in the custom mode is a motion smoother that has weak and strong settings to remove any judder from film images. However, users report that selecting this tends to make motion scenes appear artificial.

Panasonic TC-P55VT30 : The Screen

Another potential problem area is glare on the screen if this set is installed in a brightly lit room. The screen is very reflective. In dimmer rooms, however, this set’s display excels in contrast and black reproduction. There are a few false contouring areas that become visible in uniform color bands.

Plasma screen technology has made great strides in display resolution possible. This Panasonic TC-P55VT30 55-inch 3D Plasma HDTV review finds that this is an excellent choice for those who desire true HD performance and the new 3D viewing option. It features ultra high contrast imaging and THX certified color reproduction in both 2D and 3D modes.

Some minor drawbacks include onscreen glare in brightly lit rooms and the fact that only one pair of 3D glasses is included with the set. One can get additional pairs of glasses, but these are relatively expensive. Advantages include the large number of apps that are included and the wide range of different input connections available, and Wi Fi readiness.
